In the book Get Real Girl Reporter: Blows Lid Off Town!, one of the main protagonists, Casey Smith, a wordy eleven year-old has the qualities of a true reporter. She lives in the sleepy town of Abbington in the western Berkshires, in Massachusetts, where she feels that she is trapped in the means of her talent not being heard. Casey has just started going to Trumbell Middle School and thinks that she will have nothing to do because there is no newspaper! But Casey doesnt give up. She talks to her English teacher about bringing what is called Real News back to life and suddenly a real staff even starts to form. Just when things were going well, Casey is told that her front-page story cant be published without the facts to prove it. Knowing Casey, she wanted her story to be the best, a real thriller, so she went for the facts taking the risks of a lifetime. Her story included the Riverhead Paper and that the chemicals used to make paper were being dumped into the Sussex River! She knew that there were legal limits, but on a school fieldtrip, she suspected more than legal limits. She smelt her front-page story brewing so quickly it was overflowing with words! Although Casey is a risk taker, may bend the rules, and is the occasional liar, she always makes the front page. Her stories make the students at Trumbell Middle School realize that there is more to a newspaper than advice columns or fashion trends. She makes the newspaper less fluff as Casey calls it, and more hard-core news that kids should know. Throughout the story, Casey makes friends, partial enemies, and great stories that just an ordinary eleven year-old probably couldnt have pulled off, especially when it comes to getting those risk taking facts. In the end, Casey proves that Riverhead Paper has been polluting the Sussex River over the legal limits. Casey really and truly makes a good strong story with strong facts, words, and truth and always gets the front page.
