Gossip Girl is the first book in this addictive series by Cecily Von Ziegesar. It follows the lives of some senior girls and boys who are the prince and princesses of the Upper East Side. Everyone partys hard, wears magnificent designer clothes, has enough money to never work in their lives, and goes to the best private schools in the NYC. Enter the world of deceit, lies, and gossip.
This book isn't the greatest literary piece out there, but it's a light read and thoroughly enjoyable. Its easy to love Gossip Girl since many dream of living the lavish lifestyle that these teens live in, and also, everyone gossips, and you love the absurdity of the gossip that flows from these teens' mouths. The characters, though spoiled rotten, are very well developed. Many change through out the series and you love them even more, or start hating what they become.
There's also a twist. Throughout the book, and the series, there is one Upper East Sider that is known as 'Gossip Girl' and posts all of her sitings, thoughts and comments about the main characters on her personal website, but you never know who she is.
I would recommend this book to readers who are looking for a light read and a little teenage controversy. Its mostly for girls, but boys can definitely check it out and dream of all the gorgeous girls described in the book.
