You’ve Got Mail meets a YA Beach Read with a bookish mystery at its heart in the newest rom-com from Maria E. Andreu. The ideal next read for fans of Emily Henry, Kasie West, and Jennifer E. Smith.
Julieta isn’t looking for her Romeo—but she is writing about love. When her summer writing teacher encourages the class to publish their work online, the last thing she’s expecting is to get a notification that her rom-com has a mysterious new contributor, Happily Ever Drafter. Julieta knows that happily ever afters aren’t real. (Case in point: her parents’ imploding marriage.) But then again, could this be her very own meet-cute?

As things start to heat up in her fiction, Julieta can’t help but notice three boys in her real life: her best friend’s brother (aka her nemesis), the boy next door (well, to her abuela), and her oldest friend (who is suddenly looking . . . hot?). Could one of them be her mysterious collaborator? But even if Julieta finds her Romeo, she’ll have to remember that life is full of plot twists. . . .

From the author of Love in English comes a fresh take on love and romance, and a reminder to always be the author of your own life story.

Julieta is on her path to writing a novel, but finds herself stuck. She keeps a little notebook with her and jots down any idea that comes to mind. Even though she isn't looking for a Romeo, three guys are in her life and she doesn't know what do do with them or who she likes more. Insert perfect theme for a RomCom. There are three different boys that fit into three different tropes. You have the brother's best friend, the next door neighbor, and her childhood best friend. All the while, Julieta is collecting more and more for her writing career.

JULIETA AND THE ROMEOS is a cute contemporary romance with underlying themes of humor and family values. While there is some romance, I love seeing how she interacts with her family the most and their dynamics. The author also incorporates Argentinian culture and one line that had me smiling was "breakfast is for Americans" yet her mom says that as she makes her children breakfast. I love how you can tell how much they all care for one another and the love interests are a bonus. I don't want to give away anything and really liked all three of them for different reasons. We get to see a lot of character growth from Julieta while she discovers what's important in life and forges her path to a possible writing career.

Final Verdict: Overall, JULIETA AND THE ROMEOS is an easy read that's packed with family, friendship, and budding love. I would recommend this to teenagers who enjoy RomComs, are interested in writing, who like coming of age and family themes, and can't decide which romance trope they're in the mood for.
