Mattimao is the 2nd book in the Redwall series by Brian Jacques.  Mattimao is the son of Matthias and Cornflower.  Slager the Cruel is a fox who wants to capture the inhabitants of the Redwall and make them slaves in the kingdom of  Malkariss.  He kidnaps Mattimao and some other friends.  Meanwhile, back at Redwall Abbey, they are having their own problems with defending their home against crows.  Lots of action and fighting, villians and heroes are in this book, much like they were in Redwall.  Some characters were the same and others were new to the story.  It was a real page turn and I highly recommend it.

Preparations for the feast for the Summer of the Golden Rain are underway at Redwall Abbey, and young Mattimeo's mother sets him to work with the other inhabitants. His father, Mathius, is the guardian of Redwall Abbey and it is this fact that puts the young Mattimeo in danger, as the evil Slagar the Fox plots to kidnap him in a bid to shake the very foundations of the Abbey and its inhabitants.

This is a very good book.

Any reader who likes books about animals and fantasy should read this book.
