In this Meet the Artist, Zoe Whitley highlights Sophie Taeuber-Arp who specialized in abstract art. She was also a dancer, designer, puppet maker, architect, editor, and teacher. This woman accomplished so much and is a beacon for aspiring artists. She uses shapes to compose her art and her husband even called her a master brick-layer. Her art style reminds me of playing Tetris and trying to line everything up.

Whitley expresses Taeuber-Arp's love of art on every page and the illustrations keep the abstract, modern theme. Along with educating children about Taeuber-Arp's history, there are engaging activities that will stimulate young minds. There are both craft projects to do outside of the book and places to draw inside the book. What fascinates me most is the puppet making considering you don't see it discussed often and children can even make their own.

Final Verdict: With this book, children can learn about the abstract art style and determine if it's for them. If not, there's always other options! I would recommend this to young artists to educate them on abstract art and Taeuber-Arp's part in expanding on it.
