Everyone's heard about Helen Keller. But what about Annie Sullivan, her mentor. In the brillance of Helen Keller's success, Annie Sullivan was often overlooked. But really, it was Annie's struggles that led to the breakthrough that would change Helen Keller's life and the view of the world on blind/deaf people forever.

Miss Spitfire: Reaching Helen Keller tells Annie's story. When Annie Sullivan arrived at the Kellers' home she was met to a household of chaos and frustration. Helen Keller had never been taught to behave- she had always got what she wanted. But Annie, was determined to connect Helen to society. What followed is a story of determination, courage and hope.

Miss Spitfire is obviously a well-researched book. Each chapter begins with a quote from Annie herself. Sarah Miller manages to capture Annie Sullivan's voice and express to us the importance of language/communication. It was a truly excellent novel.
