A thirteen year old girl named Yoko is living with her brother and sister in poverty. During the war, Yoko's family fled their home to find a safer place to live. While fleeing, their mother died of exhaustion, and their father was taken prisoner of war.

Though the children have to live alone in a warehouse since they have no money, they show courage and strength to never give up.

My favorite part was when Yoko, Ko and Hideyo finally find their father. Now, knowing that their father has been serching for them for many years, and they have been searching for him, their bond grew and they lived as a family again.

I would recommend this book because it shows courage throughout a torn up family, and the only thing keeping them together are their love and honor for themselves and each other.
