My First Pop-up: Bugs

MY FIRST POP-UP: BUGS is a cute and colorful pop-up book. The book features six pop-up bugs on brightly colored backgrounds with a simple sentence about the bug running across each page.

What I loved: This is a really fun one for children who love pop-ups and/or bugs. The pages can turn really quickly as there is very little text on each page. The text labels the bug but keeps it short and sweet without much additional information. The bugs are very colorful with artistic detail that adds a lot of interest, presented on solid but bright colored backgrounds that keep the focus on the pop-ups.

What left me wanting more: The pages and pop-ups are cardstock thickness, so they feel pretty delicate. While the bugs do pop-up, they don't really do much else. The text does not really match up to their actions as the bugs just appear. For instance, the sentence about the beetle says it is hiding in the leaves, but no leaves are shown. There is no educational material about the bugs or anything for additional learning (this is really just for looking). Rough readers will tear these easily, and the backgrounds are solid, so the book is a challenge once they are torn.

Final verdict: MY FIRST POP-UP BUGS features brightly colored, artistic pop-up bugs that will work well for children who love to look and visually explore!
