Fifteen-year-old Madeline Hickman has a sister, Barbara, who's getting married. Barbara is also a heavy alcoholic, as is Maddy's boyfriend, Justin. Justin has started acting really cruel and harsh to her. Her two best friends are dating each other and are neglecting her. Her life is a mess. At the reception, Maddy is alone. Justin didn't come because he was hung over, and she meets a guy she hasn't seen in years. Maddy is faced with responsibility, and she has to choose between what she feels would be best for the people around her and what's easiest.

My Sister's Wedding is basically about alcohol. Maddy's problem is that everyone she's really close to is an alcoholic, and it seems to her like she's the only one who cares. It sent a really good message and gave a good representation of alcoholism. My only problem was that it focused too much on drinking and not enough on the story. Still, I really enjoyed it. It's a good book for teenagers to read before they decide to begin drinking.
