“Our Incredible Imagination,” written by Helena Harastova, illustrated by Dita Vopradova, delves into the intricacies of just what the imagination is, which according to the book is, “the brain’s ability to visualize things that are missing, either because they aren’t nearby or because they simply aren’t real.”
The book describes the imagination as a big amusement park. There is constantly something happening. It clarifies how someone can not only imagine wishes, hopes, and made-up ideas, but also real things, like the house one lives in, the school one goes to, etc. In order to describe what one is thinking of, that person has to imagine it.
There are also people who have different types of imaginations, some of which include those with synesthesia. This means that these people can blend color with sound, or words with smell, such as feeling as though they can taste words, see numbers as colors, etc. Also, imagination is not just for artist types, but also for people whose minds are more focused on scientific endeavors, as there must be some form of creativity to come up with new theories, ideas, and discoveries that will benefit as many people as possible in the medical and other scientific realms.
The back matter of the book includes a table of contents, as well as more information to help readers gain a deeper understanding if they want to learn more about imagination and all it entails. There are other books that can be read, and a short glossary of terms to review. Even if someone thinks that their imagination isn’t up to par with someone else who can write a whole book, draw a picture, etc., everyone has an imagination—they just work in different ways for different people. This book will help readers better understand the ways of the imagination and how to help it blossom into something even more engaging than before.
