This is the first book in the "Protector of the Small" series. It takes us into Kel's first year studying to be a knight. And it requires not only strength... Kel, being the only girl there, is put on probation; a clique of boys tease her and she becomes a victim of many pranks. But she sticks to it. And makes friends and wins the respect of many of her teachers, including the training master who requires probation.
I like this book a lot because it is realistic, full of things happening, and the story flows, both by itself and in connection to other books and series by this author.
