On a cycling trip once they graduate, a pair of friends find themselves trapped in a fight which results in them splitting up. After the main character goes home, he find out that his friend never returned from the trip, shocking him completely. After a police officer starts investigating the boy's disappearance, the main character goes on a trip to find his friend, retracing their path to search for him.

Told in chapters which alternate between present day and what happened on their original trip, "SHIFT" is a ride that will keep the reader guessing until the very end, begging for more information which can only be gathered by reader quicker and turning the pages faster. A quick thrill ride, "SHIFT" is a book that any teen should read.
