Stick Dog lives under a bridge and is quite happy there. He hangs out with his dog friends, Mutt, Poo-poo and Karen. When the group smells hamburgers cooking in the park, they make plans to steal them, and have many humorous attempts to get them from the family. These include some spats with squirrels, thinking Karen is missing and planning a memorial to her, and stealing potato chips out of a trash can. Will Stick Dog and his friends ever get the hamburgers?
Good Points
When I first read this book in 2012, I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have. It's one of those series where each book gets better and better, and I now utterly adore it.

The best part of the writing is that it appeals to adults, tweens, and children alike. It's a great choice for an older sibling to read aloud to a younger one, because they will laugh at different parts. Stick Dog has become more and more clever, while his friends still think he is not very bright. There's also a lot of slapstick for younger readers, and the dogs will go to any lengths to get food.

I love the variety of adventures that Stick Dog and his friends have, and there is only one more book in the series. Stick Dog Takes Out Sushi comes out in February 2021.

This book is about dogs that want to get burgers but when they try there are a few distractions and they have had some trouble creating plans but they figure it out at some point, sometimes the author interrupts the story to tell you something, and it is very fun and interesting.

Stick dog is a good friend to his friends and listens to them even if he thinks that they aren't very good about doing something. Stripes is a very optimistic dalmatian and doesn't get mad or sad when her ideas or other things are rejected (most of the time). Poo-Poo is a pink poodle who has a large rivalry with squirrels and has very interesting hobbies. Karen is a bright dachshund and doesn’t think things out fully or completely, leading into some bad ideas. And then there's Mutt who is very calm and collected and always tries to help his friends, no matter how ridiculous their ideas are.

I would recommend this book to higher elementary students or lower middle school students, because there are a lot of words for 2nd or lower graders and little words for 6th graders and up so it would be great for these lower middle grades.

Overall, this book is a great choice for blossoming readers who are looking for a little challenge in reading or like animals, so consider reading this book if you fit these conditions or sound interested in this book.
