Student's Guide to The Bible by Stephen M. Miller is a user-friendly, visually appealing introduction to the Bible. It provides basic background information for each of the 66 books in the Bible. But it also provides topical guides. An alphabetical issue-topic guide to finding out what you want to know--what you need to know--in an efficient manner. To give you some idea of what the book has to offer, I'll break it down further. The first hundred pages are a topical concordance of sorts. Issues like smoking, drinking, partying, popularity, hypocrisy, sex, depression, war, etc. are addressed. The next hundred (or so) pages deal with each book of the Bible. Each book gets a two page spread. The reader then finds a listing of "Fifty Bible Heroes and Jerks" to give further background on the stories found in the Bible. A time line is also included (in the front) and, as is to be expected in a reference book, an index.

The fruits of his critically acclaimed career include work for Reader's Digest Books and Christianity Today's Christian History magazine. His book Who's Who and Where's Where in the Bible spent many months on the Christian bestseller lists and received the Christian Retailers' Choice Award as the best nonfiction book of 2006.
