DC Comics BACKSTORIES – SUPERMAN: The Man of Tomorrow is a brilliant look into what made the Man of Steel become the hero we know today. Daniel Wallace, along with illustrator, Patrick Spaziante, takes us on a journey through Superman’s life from his birthplace of Krypton to embracing his fate as Earth’s hero. Complete with time lines, a list of people who impacted Kal-El throughout his life, and oodles of detailed graphics, we catch snapshots of Superman’s journey. Profile excerpts, much like you would find in maybe a top secret file, catalog bits of information that give us a better understanding of the man we know as Superman. We learn more about his birth parents, Jor-El and Lara, the different Kryptonian crests, and even a peek at the Legion of Super-Heroes, a group of super powered teens inspired by Superman.

The text is easy to follow and reading this with my superhero-obsessed son was such a joy. There is even a short glossary for young to middle grade readers who may not know some of the terms used within the text.

The illustrator does a wonderful job of capturing Clark when he’s young to the hero of Metropolis. Superman: The Man of Tomorrow is a must have for any superhero fan, even the most seasoned. Die-hard comic fans, or new initiates into the world of superheroes, will enjoy this look into one of the most well known heroes.
