I SEE A STAR is an engaging and imaginative way to teach young readers about the lifecycle of a star. The book features two young children alongside amazing views of space as they learn about the stages of stars from clouds of dust to galaxies and supernovas.
What I loved: This is a very rhythmic book, fantastic for reading out loud. There is only a brief amount of text on each page that makes them turn very quickly and keeps them very easy to read. The story is told smoothly through a poem that describes the steps of a star lifecycle, and the ending with a clear cycle helps to bring it all together.
The illustrations are fantastic! I know stars and galaxies are beautiful, but these images are full of color, life, and beauty. They are illustrated but really bring the majesty of stars and space into the story. I also loved the children who appear throughout and help young readers connect with the book. It was great to see that one of them has hearing aids, showing some diversity in the characters and providing that important representation.
I also love that the book includes a QR code for the story to be read aloud. This is great for readers who want to explore on their own and listen beyond the time they share with a caregiver. It's a very nicely done recording that young readers are sure to enjoy!
Final verdict: I SEE A STAR is an imaginative nonfiction read about the lifecycle of a star. With rhythmic text and beautiful illustrations, this is one that toddlers and preschoolers are sure to love!
