Tired of wandering through the uncharted territory of guys and dating? Are you in need of the ultimate roadmap to this foreign landscape? Want to get pointed in the right direction by someone other than your mother or your trusty (but inexperienced) friend?

When it comes to guys, relationship expert Julie Taylor has all the answers -- and she'll give 'em to you straight. Think of her as an older sister (a fun older sister) who will tell it like it is, one who knows that you aren't a little kid anymore, especially when it comes to the opposite sex. Julie will guide you through the highs and lows of a killer crush, help you conquer first-date jitters, advise you when it is time to promote him to official "boyfriend" status, reveal the realities of a summer fling, and more. Plus, each chapter ends with a quiz to help you determine the answers to a variety of questions essential for any girl with a one-way ticket to Guyville, such as:

Who's your dream date?
Is he second date material?
Are you ready to commit?
Is it time to give him the boot?

And if the stud turns out to be a dud, Julie preps you on when and how to dump him or how to survive when you're the one getting dumped. After all, they're just guys, and dating should be fun! So, read up....Next stop, Guyville!

This is another book that should have been published years earlier...perhaps when I was in my teens. Ms. Taylor's guide offers helpful advice and tips with a no-nonsense (but fun!) attitude.

Julie Taylor has written about relationship issues for teens in magazines such as Girl, Sassy, Teen and YM. Her writing style is easily accessible and does not talk down to younger readers at all. The author herself is very accessible: E-mail any questions about guys directly to Julie at [email protected].

The book is nicely organized into logical sections, such as Flirt Alert, Getting Serious and Making the Break. All aspects of today's dating world are covered: from flirting to getting serious, from sex to abstinence, from cyber dating to long distance love.

Even though the book is written in a very lighthearted manner, it tackles very serious issues with both honesty and bluntness. Are you a parent worried about talking to your teen daughter about sex? Buy this book and discuss it with her. It doesn't pull any punches or glamorize sex. At times, it is brutally up front with the risks teens face in today's world.

Although most adults would like to believe that only older teens and women are sexually active, statistics show that many younger girls are experimenting with sex. However, even teens who practice abstinence will find much to recommend them to this book. The first half, in particular, covers the "non-sexual" aspects of dating.

Each chapter ends with a self-help type quiz (very reminiscent of the magazines that Ms. Taylor often writes for) that are a surefire way to get girls thinking about what they've just read. Guys may want to sneak a peek, just to see what's being said about them.

If you’ve ever wished someone could just explain guys honestly, clearly, and without being boring, The Girls’ Guide to Guys is that book written in such a natural and relatable way, the same tone that made her magazine work in Teen, YM, and Sassy so well-loved. She doesn’t talk down to readers, she just gives real, practical advice about dating, flirting, relationships, and even the harder things like breakups and setting boundaries.

The book is organized into easy sections like Flirt Alert, Getting Serious, and Making the Break, and it really does cover everything, from first crushes to more serious relationships. What I liked most is that it feels very real. Julie Taylor talks about sex, abstinence, long-distance relationships, and even online dating in a way that’s honest and open, not fake or judgmental.

Each chapter ends with a little quiz that reminds you of those fun teen magazines, and it actually makes you think about your own choices and feelings. Even though it’s written in a light, easy tone, it doesn’t shy away from important topics.

Honestly, it’s a great read whether you’re a teen trying to figure out relationships or a parent wanting something to help start conversations with your daughter. It’s one of those books that makes you think, “I wish I had this when I was younger.
