Nearing forty, Isolde is no longer young but still as beautiful as she was when she was a girl, and the Lady of the Sea is beginning to speak to her again. She saves Isolde when she travels home to Ireland after parting from her knight and gives her a potion to undo the barrenness she inflicted upon herself when she was married against her will. She longs to have a child and knows it must be soon, but her knight is far away.

I have been slowly working my way through this trilogy for years now. I am not sure exactly why it has taken me so long, as each book is an enjoyable read, but I think it may have something to do with the sense of closure at the end of each book. In her endings, Rosalind Miles manages to capture the entire story in a few words, which is what I have come to value her writing for.

I strongly recommend this book as an example of wonderful writing, if nothing else.
