The Myth of You & Me, Leah Stewart's second novel, is about Cameron and Sonia, best friends who broke up when Cameron left Sonia at a gas station on a trip. Now, Cameron lives with her beloved Oliver Doucet, a ninety-year-old historian who hires her as an assistant. They have a very close, almost romantic, relationship, but more like a father-daughter relationship. When a letter arrives from Sonia after eight years, saying she was getting married and was thinking about the past, how it doesn't seem real unless Cameron was there to confirm the time they had spent together. Oliver wants Cameron to answer Sonia, but she refuses, until Oliver passes away and leaves her a note. He tells her to deliver a package to Sonia, so Cameron has no choice but to follow his directions. On her trip, Cameron flashes back on the times she spent with Sonia, up to the time she ended their relationship.
The Myth of You & Me, although long, is a touching story about two people's friendship and what happens when they break up. It's a good book for anyone who's lost their best friend.
