Princess Mia is the ninth in Meg Cabots Princess Diaries series. I have to admit, I havent read them all. Ive read all Megs other YA books, but after the first couple of Princess Diaries books (which I did enjoy), the titles and covers were too similar and I couldnt keep track of them and remember which ones Id read, so I kind of just gave up. I still dont know which ones Ive read. Maybe I have read them all. I dont think Ive read the one where Mia runs for class president, though. Hmm. Im really not entirely sure. I know the basic timeline of events, though, and am familiar with the characters, and thats all thats really necessary to reading this book (although it would have helped to have read the eighth beforethey are so connected that I went ahead and read it anyway after finishing this one!).
In Princess Mia, Mia is struggling with the loss of her boyfriend, Michael. (He didnt die; she broke up with him over something kind of stupid and then he moved to Japan to make a robotic surgery thingy to save people). She might have been able to function through that, except that then she immediately lost her best friend, Lilly, because Lilly thought she kissed her recent ex-boyfriend, J.P. (which, Mia did, kind of, but only accidentally, and theyre just friends). Now, she doesnt have either of the Moscovitzes, her boyfriend or her best friend, and thats just too much for a girl to handle! Add that to the fact that shes expected to give a speech to two thousand of the worlds most elite businesswomen, and, yeah, shes a little stressed. Whats a princess to do?
I really enjoyed this book. I literally laughed out loud at some parts; Mias distinctive voice just makes everything so hilarious, even if she didnt get into so many mishaps. Its certainly not all light-hearted fun, though; Mias dealing with some serious sadness in this book. Meg Cabot shows herself in this book to be very good at creating great characters, and she really does, after nine books (plus those weird little half-books or whatever theyre called that come in between some of the main books) about them, know this cast of characters very well (and so does the reader).
I think I may very well go back and read the rest of the series in order; it really is that good. This book is highly recommended! It has restored my faith in Meg Cabot (a couple of her recent books were a little disappointing to me, but maybe just not my kind of books; they werent necessarily bad).

The second to last Princess Diaries book is extremely good. The eighth book ended with Mia and Michael breaking up and Lily ignoring Mia. These events are about to cause a lot of changes.
For one thing, Mia's not even sure if she wants Lily to be her friend. For another, Lana, her former enemy, has decided to talk to her, making them...friends? And then someone has created a hate website, ihatemiathermopolis.com. Life isn't going good for Mia. And things only become more complicated, especially after Mia discovers a secret that could change her life and Genovia forever.
This book is a quick, entertaining read although readers may find it easy to guess what's going to happen (such as who made the hate website). However, I have to say I loved the ending.

This is the ninth installment to the Princess Diaries series and it is a great one. Mia has just broken up with her boyfriend and is facing serious depression and therapy as a result. In spite of this break down, Mia remains fairly mature throughout the novel. The growth of this character is clearly displayed in this second to last installment for the series. I was extremely impressed.
The subplots were very entertaining to read as well. Mia's world is changing drastically and the relationships in it are as well. Exciting developments in Mia's relationships with JP and Lilly will leave the reader wishing the tenth and final installment came out the second they finish the ninth.
I am now also extremely anxious to read the tenth and final novel in the series. It is sure to be a wonderful and fulfilling end to this beloved series.

Devastated by her breakup with Michael, Mia tries to find a way to cope. Avoiding people, lurking about in her Hello Kitty Pajamas and feasting on meat seems to be Mia's only solution to her problems. That is, until Mia's parents finally force Mia to attend therapy sessions with psychologist by the name of Dr. Knutz...and is forced back to school.
Back at school, Lilly, Mia's former best friend, refuses to even glance at her while her former enemies, Lana and Trish befriend her. And J.P., Lilly's ex, seems to be interested in Mia, in That Way.
While dealing with all these new situations, Mia also discovers a diary of one of her ancestors who ruled Genovia for a grand total of 12 days and learns a shocking new secret about her country that will change her destiny and that of her country.
This latest book in the Princess Diaries series is one of the best yet. Meg Cabot continues to keep her writing fresh, with newer and even more heart-wrenching situations but at the same time keeping mood lighthearted, and the reader laughing.
