This is a great biography much like "A child Called It" minus the graphic descriptions. Page by page, your gripped with emotions--joy, sorrow, fear, & anger. You will truly wish you could have helped Jennings and all the other children who were abandoned and abused by the SYSTEM!
Truly, you wonder if 30 years has changed the system and how can we make it better.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....................:(..this was THE saddest book you will ever read................. i can hardly belive that Jennings had to go through all of thoughs horibbly events in his life ..................................................... and some of the things will make you so happy that you would want to jump for joy and some will make you cry so hard even when you have read it four hundred times(yes i have read the book that many times:))
I finished the book in a grand total of 2 days!!!! it was so amazing that so many sad events could happen it his life i think the sadest part of the book was definetly the part when jennings was dragged a cross the floor by Sister Barbra and i think the happest part was when Jennings said I love you a million times to Sal at the end it was so sad it made me cry :(...
it is a book to read do Not miss this book!!!!!!!

I think that this was a phenomenal novel. It is a very sad story of a young boy who is forced to travel from orphanage to orphanage, he endures abusive nuns, and has to overcome many obstacles. i think it is written beautifully, rich with detail. Sometimes i could just imagine standing in the room he was in, or doing what he was doing. It is a very remarkable piece of literature, and i encourage any people that read this review read the book They Cage the Animals at Night.

Well I first read this book about halfway through my grade eight year of high school(I'm in grade nine now)and I think the fact that I have read this novel over again many times now is a huge part of how inspiring this book is. I mean how often do you find books about someone who went through enormous challenges and was able to survive to tell the tale themselves? I also liked how Jennings(or Mr. Burch) was able to portray almost his exact feelings and thoughts from when he was a child...so while still telling the story in an adult voice he is able to portray his thoughts as a child. Does that make sense? Well either way I think he is a good writer and a person with a big story to tell. I am glad he was able to put his life experiences into words and am glad he was and still is a survivor.

I liked this book because Jennings Michael Burch tells the story in a way that really captures what he is feeling. When someone asks me about this book I will simply say, "Doggie." If you read this book you will know what I mean. I really recommend this book to anyone who likes a book that makes them cry.

This is truly of of the best and most heartbreaking books I have ever read. It was hard to put down and yet hard to read at the same time. I cried through the whole thing but the ending was beautiful. The author has an amazing way of describing things and making you realize how blessed we all are in our own lives. I would recommend this book to anyone.

My 14 year old grandaughter gave me this book and I have been so deeply touched by it that I can't wait to thank her. It really hit home because I was left penniless and homeless with 5 boys and was able to raise them alone, abundantly. With the grace of God, my story for my children was one of struggles but not the trauma that Jennings endured. I cried for Jennings mom as well as Jennings, knowing her heart was in being a mother but her health was not. God bless Jennings for the reminder I have today to be ever so grateful. How I wish I could write a book as moving as this one by Jennings Burch. May Jennings be blessed and be happy in his current life and may he feel the fulfillment from telling his life story as a
marvelous gift to the world. Peggy Blake

Although I absolutely hate reading, I could not put down this book! This book had alot of up and down feelings. I never knew what to expect. After i read the first few pages I said "ahh it's just another book." but then I read more into it and couldn't stop! I actually re-arranged my schedule to have time to read the book.
If you read the book through the time he was at "The Home Of The Angels" and up until he went back to live with his mom the first time, you think the books done and he stays with his mom. Then you read on and think "Wow, how rong was I?" I can't think of any words to describe the book or why I kept reading it. I can't even relate to the book in the slightest. No one I know has been through this.
If you hate reading ike I do, I would definitely reccomend you give this book a shot.
