This book was wonderful! And i wrote a letter in Greg Mortenson's point of view to a fictional friend of his. I loved this book and was so inspired by his story. Enjoy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello, this is Greg Mortenson. I just wanted to tell you that we just finished writing Three Cups of Tea. It was a wonderful experience for both of us: me and David Relin that is! I just thought it would be nice of me to tell you. This book, as you already know, is about my trip and journey to Pakistan and Afghanistan to build schools for poor girls that live in small villages and in the mountains. Youre probably thinking why I would want to do that when it was clear that my life was all about mountain climbing. That is explained in the beginning of the book. I will just let you know anyways. Christa, my sister died of a seizure. I had her special bracelet with me and I was going to climb K2, the second highest mountain in the world which is located on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. While in the remote regions of Pakistan I was treated to nicely by all the people on the mountains. They were so hospitable towards me even though they had no idea who I was. I was deeply grateful. My attempt to climb the mountain was a failure. I saw the condition of the people living on the mountains. They were as poor as can be, living with no food for days. But what bothered me the most was the fact that the girls sat out on the snowy floor learning from a volunteer teacher and using sticks and dirt to write theyre lessons. I then learned that there were no schools for girls in these parts of Pakistan. I was touched when I saw how badly these little children wanted to learn. So I decided that when I got back to America, I would return with money to build school in these remote parts. Thus I left with a promise to those people. This book tells about my journey to help these poor children become educated to help their future kids and parents. Although I struggled and it took me a few years, I never lost hope and I hope you read my story, not just for my sake, but for your own education. I think everyone can learn something from my story. I want to also say that without the help of David Oliver Relin, my story would have never been written for the world to read. Well, I have to go now. Write back soon! Cant wait to hear from you! Tell me what you think of the book after you finish reading it. Im sending you a copy with this letter. Talk to you later.

                                                                        Your good friend,

Greg Mortenson

Three Cups of Tea is Greg Mortenson's story. After failing to climb K2, Mortenson is rescued by a village and promises to build them a school. This one school leads to more schools.

I thought this book was very powerful. It shows that one person can indeed make a difference. The story does get a bit slow towards the middle, but overall the book is really good.

Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin is one of the greatest and most inspiring books I have ever read. The book follows the work of Greg Mortenson, a former mountain climber. After failed attempt to climb K2, one of the largest mountains in the world, Mortenson is rescued and taken to a rural mountain village in Northern Pakistan. Touched by their hospitality Mortenson is heartbroken when he discovers there is no school in the small village for the children to learn. The is a warming and inspiring story one simple mans mission to promote peace by building schools all over Central Asia. The book is beautifully written and filled with beautiful quotes of those whose lives were most touched by the work of Greg Mortenson, those living in poor regions of Central Asia. Filled with suspense and good deeds Three Cups of Tea really shows how it is possible for one man to make a huge difference. The book is written like a news paper article. It shows with vivid color and clarity the actions of this most admirable man. When first hearing of this book I wasnt so sure I wanted to read a 331 page long newspaper article, but its simplistic writing style gives this book unique character and a sense of realness. This book is really able to make a seemingly impossible test seem very, very real. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who needs reassurance in the goodness of man or those who simply want to read a well written exciting book. This is truly an eye opener for us Americans, poverty is real, and there are children in the world who dont have books or the option to attend school. Tom Brokaw says it best, Greg Mortenson is proof that one ordinary person, with the right combination of character and determination, really can make a difference.
