This book in the series deals with Cat and how her father is getting remarried. You learn that Cat has had to be both older sister and mom to her siblings since her mother passed away. Now there's a new step-mom moving into their lives and Cat's not sure how to deal.
This book has several emotional moments that make this book not only really great, but show off what a great writer Hopkins is like when we see Cat's friends accidentally sell off items of her mother's that she had set aside to save. Her reaction when she finds out her mom's things are gone is heartbreaking and I felt her anxiety as she yelled in anguish for them to get them back. Later, as she moves and is torn by leaving the house her mother had lived in, we see her adjusting to a new room and excited to decorate it. She decides to do a theme based on one of her mother's favorite trips to remember her. However, she comes home to find her step-mom has convinced the family to paint her room for her...in the color she chose, not Cat. Cat's devastated and everyone thinks she's being ungrateful for not appreciating their efforts when really, it was important to her to pick things out herself.
This is one of the best books Cathy Hopkins has written as it is both emotional and entertaining.
