Hala, Khadija, Mawal, and Soraya are cousins with very different lives, but they all share a Palestinian heritage. Hala, raised in America, is a forgeiner among her own people. Khadija is abused by her father, and the other two have problems as well.
I have a friend who read this book before I did and, though I thought it looked good, I thought it might be too cliched for my tastes. Also, the girl on the cover really bothered me- her eyes make her look like some sort of demon priestess. I did not want to read it because of that alone, but after searching the library shelves in vain I checked it out.
It was a fun read, but moving.
