About the Book:
The snark and instant chemistry of Better Than the Movies meets the indulgent summer fun and family hijinks of The Summer of Broken Rules in this compulsively readable rom-com from Alex Light, author of The Upside of Falling.
Jackie Myers is a fraud. Or she might be a genius—the jury’s still out.
The thing is, she secretly runs pleasebreakmyheart, a gone-viral account aimed at breaking hearts and ending relationships…. And she just used it to break up her insufferable eternal nemesis’s picture-perfect relationship.
Wilson is the buttoned-up, type A assistant manager of her nightmares—but it turns out he’s also, apparently, a really great boyfriend.
So with her conscience (and paycheck) on the line, Jackie decides there’s only one thing to do: She’s going to help Wilson win his ex-girlfriend back. Which should be easy, considering Jackie hates him…right?

It’s Not Me, It’s You is a fun enemies-to-lovers clean YA romcom. Jackie Myers hates being in a frog costume at Monte’s, and she fully blames the uptight, clean-cut Assistant Manager, Wilson, for demoting her to the role. Her only joy is being as annoying as possible to him.
As much fun as the romance aspect is in the story, it also has themes of finding yourself and sisterhood. Jackie’s older twin sisters have overshared all their breakup details for years, and one accidental comment online has Jackie set up as an anonymous advice columnist on how to break up with someone. Something she doesn’t have firsthand experience with, so she liberally uses her sister’s details to give the advice.
I like that Jackie has strong ties to friends and family, and the romance isn’t in a vacuum. The different subplots between the romance, becoming a good online advice columnist, and her sisters weave together for a fully fleshed world and plotline. I generally don’t enjoy the communication trope where the relationship has drama because the main character withheld information. However, because of her instant fame as an online advice columnist using secondhand knowledge, it is a natural extension of that scenario that she has kept it secret and needs to work through the consequences of it being discovered.
Overall, this is a fun, clean YA romcom with great snark and chemistry and a large dose of sisterly love on the road to growing up and finding your path. The characters are easy to like, and the plot is believable.
