When dad says it’s bedtime and his daughter strongly disagrees, her stuffy hilariously comes to her defense.

Lady Pigsworth is quick to point out the many ongoing projects that just can’t be abandoned, the danger of sleeping in a butterfly costume, the alarming spinach stuck in the girl's teeth, and more. Each over-the-top declaration of why it can’t possibly be bedtime yet leads the group through common bedtime routines in animated and heartwarming scenes—until Lady Pigsworth’s demands reach questionable heights, even to the little girl, so she takes matters into her own hands to get both of them into bed.

Dreamy illustrations and the hilarious Lady Pigsworth make for a perfect read-aloud that will leave any kid content to shut their eyes, at least for a little bit.

Dad states that it is bedtime, but his daughter doesn’t agree with that, and suddenly Lady Pigsworth, her stuffed animal, agrees with her. Lady Pigsworth has a whole list of things that still have to be done, like changing out of a butterfly costume, brushing her teeth, and more. But then Lady Pigsworth demands things that the little girl thinks are out of reach, so she hatches up a plan to get her and Lady Pigsworth into bed.

What I Liked: This book opens with a dad informing his child that it is time for bedtime, she doesn’t agree with him, and now Lady Pigsworth is in on it as well. Read along as some silly antics unfold while Dad tries his best to get his daughter ready for bed. Just as he thinks there can’t possibly be anything else he forgot in the bedtime routine, Lady Pigsworth comes up with some outrageous requests. This is a fun moment as his daughter recognizes that maybe it is time for bed, and she joins in tricking Lady Pigsworth to bed. This is a cute and sweet bedtime story to help children get ready for bed as they recognize similar bedtime routines, such as brushing their teeth and changing into pajamas.

The illustrations throughout this book are fun and whimsical as they are both realistic and include elements of fantasy. The background colors follow a similar tone, therefore, the characters all stand out as they are various colors. The colors in the story make Lady Pigsworth come to life as she doesn’t remain in the purple and blue tones that the inanimate objects surrounding her are; she is bright pink and has a hat that has multiple colors as well.

Final Verdict: It Simply Can’t Be Bedtime is a silly and hilarious book about the things that one must do before going to bed. Children will laugh along with the silly antics that Lady Pigsworth suggests and adults will enjoy as they relate to the dad in this story just trying to get his daughter to bed.
