Andy the ant is planning a small party for his birthday. But as word spreads around the anthill, the guest list grows and grows! Exuberant fun on every colorful page.

It’s another busy day at the anthill. Farmer ants collect food, worker ants build tunnels, and soldier ants guard the queen. But for Andy, it’s a very special day: his birthday! He invites his neighbors for a fun party with dancing and dips. But unbeknownst to Andy, his neighbors invite a few of their friends, and then those friendsinvite a few of their friends . . . Soon the event is shaping up to be a full-blown mega ant party! Andy is shocked by the turnout, but soon gets into the swing of things. Until, that is, an unwelcome guest crashes the party—and Andy’s house!—and the ants must work together to save the day (and the dips). Jovial text and lively, detailed illustrations make this story a comedic delight.

It seems like a normal day at the anthill, all of the ants are busy doing their jobs, but for Andy, it's a special day, it's his birthday. He invites a few neighbors for a party with dancing and dips, but those friends invite their friends, and before he knows it, the whole anthill has been invited. Andy is surprised by everyone who shows up at his doorstep, but is happy to enjoy his birthday with them all. That is, until an unwelcome guest crashes his party and his house. Now the ants must work together to get rid of this guest.

What I Liked: All but one ant is busy with their jobs, collecting food, building tunnels, and guarding the queen, all except for Andy, as it's his birthday. Get ready with Andy as he prepares for his birthday, in which he has decided to invite just his neighbors, as his house isn’t that big. But when his neighbors are invited, the other ants get invited too because someone has to bring the food, and worker ants need to have fun, and well, the soldier ants overheard and just had to tell the Queen about Andy’s party. Read along as this small get-together turns into a large party for all the ants of the anthill.

Unfortunately for the ants and antwater has crashed the party and ruined Andy’s home. Thankfully, Andy uses his anger together all of the ants to show the anteater just what a real party looks like. Banding together, they can dance the anteater out towards the river and fling him right into it; therefore, Andy’s party was still full of dancing and dips as he originally intended. As they all ended up at the river, they can party with other bugs that were nearby, like beetles, frogs, fireflies, and more. This final scene is a beautiful image as the different animals gather round to enjoy themselves, and you get to see the various creatures that make up the bug world in the wild.

The illustrations in this book are vibrant, bringing attention to each of the various ants that you meet. It's fascinating to see how the ants are specific colors within each workgroup, but when they come together, they create a rainbow of colors. You can also find distinctions in the ant groups based on the headgear that they are wearing.

Final Verdict: Ant Party is a captivating and joyful story showcasing the power of teamwork, especially when it comes to daunting tasks or things that are larger than us. Children ages 3 and up will enjoy reading along as this party unfolds and the pleasing images that are included on every page.
