Drifting into Dreamland
In Our Dreams is a bedtime story that helps children get ready for sleep as they explore meadows, the ocean, and more. This book will have them traveling in the mountains, swimming in the oceans, right into the quiet meadow before drifting off into a dream-filled sleep.
What I Liked: This book is an intriguing take on the things we explore in our minds before we head off to bed. Each page has the words formatted differently to bring out the illustrations, such as one page has you turn the book 90 degrees to read, and another has the words following along the silver whisps from one page into the next. The text is placed strategically to ensure that there is enough contrast between the background and the text, and in a way that flows smoothly.
The illustrations deposit you straight into the various journeys we are going through before going to bed with silver accents that visually tie the pages together, making for a cohesive story. The illustrations change shades as you go from one setting to the next; the forest is a lot darker while the ocean and mountains are full of soft pastel colors. These different distinctions in colors allow you to be submerged in the various settings, and the pastel accents that are interpreted throughout the story tie it together.
Final Verdict: In Our Dreams is a beautiful book for children ages 3 and up that is poetic and guides you through fascinating images before settling down for sleep. Children will enjoy listening to this story before bed, and the words are soothing, and the tone remains soft and smooth throughout the book.
