ACTUAL FACTUAL FILES: ANCIENT EGYPT is an approachable, easily digestible chapter book about Ancient Egypt. The book covers all the key topics, including about pharoahs, the nile, hieroglyphics, and mummies.
What I loved: This is a very fun nonfiction read, perfect for elementary aged readers. The book is written in a conversational tone that children will find easy to understand and connect with. There are a breadth of topics covered, which are great for advancing readers who already have an interest in the topic.
The text is broken up in places by call-outs with images, stories, and lists of cool facts. This helps with independent readers gaining confidence by breaking up large sections of text. The font is also oversized, which is great for this audience to help them to follow along. The use of color is fantastic and also will appeal to this age group.
The information covers all the expected topics with a good amount of fun facts for the kids who like to learn cool new tidbits of information. The beginning of the book includes a table of contents so that readers can turn to a particular section if they are curious about a specific topic (like female pharoahs!). Backmatter includes a helpful glossary and index.
Final verdict: ACTUAL FACTUAL FILES: ANCIENT EGYPT is an approachable and fun way for children to learn about history. This is perfect for middle elementary school aged readers who will love the full color illustrations, conversational tone, and loads of cool facts!
