Hi! I just read Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Cholendenko. The story is about Moose and Natalie Flanagan and their life on the island of Alcatraz. In the story, Moose meets a girl named Piper who is the wardens daughter. Her plans are always getting Moose (and almost his family) into trouble while she tries to make money. Moose and his family try to help Natalie (who might have Autism) get into the Esther P. Marinoff School so that she has a chance at having a better life. When the school denies Natalie for the second time, Moose comes up with a plan to get Natalie into Ether P Marinoff School. If you want to know more about the story, youll have to read the book.


I liked the story because it takes place on the island of Alcatraz in 1935 and it helps the reader understand what life was like living on the island with criminals. I rate this book a 3.5 out of 5.

This is an all around ok book. The plot and idea behind it are great but the author did not capitalize on the storys potential. If you like stories about loveable losers, distorted history, or prison this book is perfect for you. Not my favorite but definately glad to have it under my reading belt.
