ATTACK OF THE HANGRIES is an educational picture book that helps to teach children about what happens when they feel hungry. The book walks through some hangry scenarios before teaching children about what happens in the body when you feel hungry with hormones and the like that results in the hangries.
What I loved: This is an approachable story that helps to explain hunger in the body and why we need food. Food is fuel for our brains and body, and when we don't have it, our hormones start to change and can impact mood. The illustrations are cartoonish but fantastic for the intended audience, with hormones in cars in the bloodstream and so on. This makes it fun and a little silly as the key messages are conveyed to young readers. The book does a good job of nonjudgmentally explaining what happens when we get hungry/angry and why we need to keep ourselves fed.
Final verdict: ATTACK OF THE HANGRIES is a great nonfiction read that helps to teach young readers about their bodies in an approachable and informative way.
