Spoilers ahead!!!! The idea that the human form of a vampire lives and dies while the soul lives on forever is a new and refreshing outlook on the overused fictional creatures. As you already know, vampires live forever (duh), which is why all the richest, smartest and most famous people are vampires. They can remember all their past lives, languages, life lessons, they single-handedly helped create the new world and own most if it, and they’ve kept all the money they’ve been accumulating for hundreds upon hundreds of years. With that criteria in mind I think the only logical setting for a story about vampires is indeed New York, where young rich people thrive on life, food, and fashion. New York also ties into the story perfectly because of its old history, the settling of the new world, and the unknown origins of Croatan. The way Cruz intertwines the story of the past, of Plymouth, and of Roanoke, with what is happening in the present, truly makes her story eerie and puts her readers on edge.

This is the first book in a long series of rich vampires. It was a new take on it, with the blue bloods and silver bloods. But, it just didn't hold my attention.

The Blue Bloods series will leave you thirsty for more. . . I know I am. . . I am very proud to be a Filipina. This amazing author inspires me to be one also. . . ^_^
Good Points
The Blue Bloods series will leave you thirsty for more. . . I know I am. . . A different way to look at vampires. A new twist, a beautifully weaved book(series). It's amazing how De La Cruz created the world of the Blue Bloods. The heroine Schuyler is just. . . Charming. . . I'm in love with this series. . . I want to consume more than just 9 books in total of it.

A different twist on vampires makes this a good YA series. If you are looking for something different, but want to stick to vampires and the paranormal it is definitely worth the read. This is reality to a T in regards to teenagers, minus the vampires of course. ;) The main character is believable, and I can relate to her. You also have your hot guys, spoiled rich girls, and outcasts. Perfect cast for a good story.

Honestly, I should just warn you this is probably one of if not my favorite series in the young adult genre. I love everything about these books and the thing is they just keep getting better as they go on. The first book really kicks the series off in a great direction. Schuyler Van Alen is the perfect protagonist. An outcast who goes to a posh school, Schuyler is really relatable. The other two main leads in the books: Mimi and Bliss aren't as relatable. Mimi comes off as spoiled and vapid in the first book, while there's just something off about Bliss though she is likeable. Melissa also does a great job with the romantic interests in these books as well. Jack Force is the perfect guy. There's no other way to describe him and Sky's best friend Ollie is just adorable. Unlike a lot of books both love interests are rootable here. And then there's the action. de la Cruz knows how to write grisly action scenes that leave you wanting more after you turn the last page.

Schuyler Van Alen has never fit in at Duchesne, her prestigious New York City private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes to the Prada and the pearls worn by her classmates. But when she turns fifteen, Schuyler's life changes dramatically. The death of a popular schoolmate haunts her in unexpected ways. And the strangest of all, Jack Force, the most popular boy in school, is showing a sudden interest in her.
Once an outcast, Schuyler is thrust into Manhattan's most exclusive social circle. Its members are the powerful, the wealthy, and - as Schuyler soon discovers - the unhuman. They are Blue Bloods, an ancient group of vampires, and for centuries, they've been invincible. Now something is preying on this elite group, and Schuyler wants to find out the truth. But is she the most vulnerable of them all? - From the back of the book.

Blue Bloods is the first in the Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz. Though it is not her debut novel, it is her first foray into the vampire world. It's basically Gossip Girl with vampires, and it's awesome. It has posh parties, expensive clothes, beautiful people, but also, it has an amazing supernatural element.
The vampires in Blue Bloods are angels, fallen to earth. There are only 400 souls that are reincarnated every generation, and they have blue blood. They do not kill humans for food, just perform a sacred ritual to make sure they'll always have blood to drink. The whole thing is run by The Committee,  which runs the whole city, disguised as a charity. This was good, as the vampires are thought to be superior, which explains the hierarchy of high society well, to people who might not know.
The characters are likeable and believable, and they really drive the story. They are typical Upper East Side teenagers, and are written well. They can be annoying at times, and this just makes them so much more real.
Blue Bloods is really good, and anyone with a love of vampires or Gossip Girl or just reading in general should pick this up, as it will be loved by everyone, and will leave you hungry for the next book, Masquerade.

Blue Bloods is an amazing book about angels who get thrown out of heaven during Lucifer's ( the Devil's ) exile.  So they   end up as blue - blooded  vampires living on earth. But they on't live one life like red bloods ( humans ). After they go through the three phases of their vampire lives , they stay in a dominant state until they are needed . The main character in the story is named Schuyler Van Alen . She gets invited to join The Committee . There she finds out she's  a vampire. She falls for Jack Force who is basically inseperable from his twin , Mimi Force. Schuyler finds out that her best friend is also her human servant . But when life seems  like it can't get any more weirder. It does. Someone or something is killing off vampires her age.  The most vulnerable age of a Blue Blood ( when a vampire's blood starts to turn blue   meaning    they are regaining memories of their past lives . And no one seems to want to do anything about it  so it's all up to Schuyler . After all she is the daughter of Gabrielle , the archangel angel , Gabriel who went to earth with the vampires voluntarily . Schuyler is the chosen one to redeem forgiveness for the Blue Bloods so they can goback to Paradise .

I'm not sure what to make of this book. I liked it. It drew my attention and kept me reading for hours and hours. But Blue Bloods went downhill from the beginning.

It's a unique take on the popular vampire trend, and one I haven't read before. There were multiple plot lines throughout the book, and I think I will enjoy the rest of the series. It was a fast, quick-paced read, which I appreciated.

Even though I liked reading the first book in the Blue Bloods series, I feel Cruz could have done better.

Yes I did read this in one evening.  I'm not sure why I did though.  It was a good book, but it wasn't like wow fantastic crazy good.  There was enough mystery within the story to keep me trying to figure out everything that was going on. I was curious how it would all end. It was clear from the beginning there would be some twists and turns, and there definately was.  A few really took me by suprise.  I liked the characters. They seemed believable especially the main character Schuyler.  She feels like she never fits in, but at the same time doesn't let it bother her too much. Throughout the book her character showed some growth so that was nice to see.  This also happened with another main charcter, Bliss. Her character actually just inched out Schuyler for the most interesting character. I think she's one to watch for in later books.

The book did end with as many questions and answers.  I'm up in the air about whether I'll read any more books in the series.  This book didn't wow me, so I'm not feeling the need to run out and read more. I might try the next book, Masquerade, and go from there.

Final thought: Nice quick read that doesn't pretend to be deep literature.  Read it for fun.

Best stick with you image: Eating raw meat - yuck!

Best for ages: 15+ because of some swearing and adult situations

This book gets 4 stars! It was a fun read, which I completed in a couple days. It was mysterious, but I thought it was very obvious. I love books featuring vampires, so I liked this. I love reading the different twists on vampire history. This book calls vampires blue bloods. Learning about the blue bloods made the book very good. One flaw was the description of every outfit the characters wore. I don't like clothing :)
