“Brain Quest: Learn to Write Cursive” encourages readers to take a road trip across America as they learn to read and write cursive. Since cursive is not nearly as often taught in schools nowadays, this is a good book to get started on a useful skill. The book starts out by providing all of the state abbreviations, and there are also stickers in the back of the book for all of the states. Each letter throughout the book mentions a place, such as “B” for the Brooklyn Bridge, “K” for the Kennedy Space Center, “W” for the White House, etc. There are sentences written in cursive that extend on the information provided, including different fun facts, spaces to put the stickers found in the back of the book, pictures to further instill the details into memory, and the like.
When readers and writers have worked through the entirety of the book, they will not only have a stronger knowledge of how to write in cursive, but also about different engaging details about the United States. The facts will delight readers both young and older, with interesting trivia such as how the Grand Canyon is over one mile deep at some points, the Florida manatee can weigh more than 1,000 pounds, kickball was invented in 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and so much more.
