Candy
User reviews
Joe accidently runs into Candy on the street as he was on his way to a doctor's appointment and immediately falls for her. But he soon learns that she is a prostitute and heroin addict. Still, he wishes to see her in hopes rescuing her from a life not meant for anyone. Candy's pimp, Iggy, doesn't like Joe hanging out with Candy and warns him to stay away from her. When she doesn't, Iggy beats her up.
The rest of the book is about Joe and Candy continuing to see each other and the consequences that come from it. It's also about Joe trying to help Candy leave the life she's living for a better one. I thought it was an interesting book that showed the power of young love, because without Joe, Candy would still be trapped in a dangerous world. The book kept me eagerly reading without a lull in the plot.
This book was written by a British man, so be prepared for some terms that you may not understand.
Kevin Brooks yet again amazes me with this beautifully written novel. Joe Beck, while going to see a doctor in London, stops at McDonalds to get something to eat. In the process of getting money out of his pocket, he drops pennies and nickels on the floor. Going to grab them, he stands up and realizes someone helped him pick his money up. Not just anyone, a beautiful girl, named Candy. They talk, and have lunch together. THen someone comes to her and asks where the money is, Joe confused, candy says joe has it.
later on, Joe realizes that Candy is a prostitue, doing it just to get money to purchase heroine. shes an addict. Joe trys to stop her addiction running away with candy where no one can find them, will she stop taking it? wil iggy find them?
this book is surely to keep yo on the edge of your seat.

This is a book that has many twist and turns. I love Kevin Brooks and I think that this is one of his best book. This book is about a boy named Joe that meets a girl named Candy. Candy has a troubled life that she drags in Joe. Now Joe can't help him self from helping her. But does helping her mean putting his life and family's life in danger?
"Sex, drugs and rock n roll" basically sums this book up in a sentence. But it really tells the classic story, doesn't it? Boy sees girl. Girl smiles are boy. Boy falls in love. Boy finds out girl is a drug addicted prostitute. I know, classic, right? So, he and his family have to help her in any way possible, even when it comes down to giving up a record contract, or more importantly, risking their own lives. But whatever it takes to get Candy away from her evil pimp, they must do to save her.
This was a really awesome book! I couldnt put it down!! And I never wanted it to end... The ending though, it was fairly sad, and I was hopinh a bit more would happen. But all in all, this book is awesome!! Pick it up and read it today !!!
I LOVE THIS BOOK. If you're like me and you like everything that has to do with teens in drugs, sex and not such a happy ending, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. It's about a girl her name's Candy, she ran away from home a pimp picked her up and tricked her into the prostitution bussiness. She gets into drugs ofcourse and then one day she meets this guy who use to be her neighbor and he helps her get out of the life she's living. They run away to a cabin far away from where they live, but the pimp finds them. So when Candy went out to "hug" him she stabbed him in the neck grabbed his gun and shot one of the other guys that came with the pimp, and the other one ran away. It's amazing the ending is not what you would expect oh yes they live happily ever after or any of that. She pays for killing the two men and never sees the guy again. It's sad but I can't help but love it, cause it's so realistic.
This book was very different form other books I have read. It goes into the dark world of drugs and how it affects a young person. It really makes you think a lot about taking drugs and how bad it is. It follows the life of teenager Joe. He's jsut an innocent young boy who plays guitar and goes to school in England. That is, until he meets Candy. She's so beautiful, warm, and nice. And she likes Joe. He's never felt this way before. But there's something else about Candy that's dark and scary. She's a prostitute and does this in return for heroin from Iggy, the man that controls her and other girls like her. She is without her family and lives off drugs. Only Joe can help her escape this world of violence, brutality, and addiction. Candy wants to escape, but it's not going to be easy for her soul or her body. And with Joe getting involved, he gets others he loves hurt, too. But he has to put things right. This book is fast-paced and really realistic. It makes you keep reading. It's very emotional and many can relate. You feel like your a part of the story. Kevin Brooks is an amazing writer. He really captures a lot of this other dark world in this book.
this book was hard hitting and realistic, it goes into a lot of description about the world of Candy. However, this book is for young adults and i recommend not letting young childrem read it without the parent first reading.
