If you hadn't noticed lately, author R. L. Stine, famous for his books for the 8 - 12 age group, has been venturing into new markets. With books for adults (The Sitter) and Dangerous Girls for older YA readers, Stine is expanding his appeal.

Similar to his series books for younger readers, Dangerous Girls is packed with short, concise chapters that keep you turning the pages. Also true to form, the ending is not what you think it will be (or perhaps even what you hope it will be).

Twin sisters Destiny and Livvy are camp counselors. While there, they meet the darkly seductive Renz. He infects them both with vampirism, in search of his lost love Laura. He then follows them back home, hoping to complete Destiny's transformation into a vampire.

The main bulk of the book is taken up with the search for the Restorer, someone who can stop them from turning into full vampires before the next full moon. Mysterious deaths occur and no one knows who is responsible.

Other twists and turns, all revealed in the final few chapters, will have readers reeling in shock from one to the other. Growing fans of Stine's other books will find this one a compelling read, especially if they have outgrown the Goosebumps or The Nightmare Room books. I primarily recommend this book for ages 12 and up.
