I really enjoyed this twist on the dystopian genre... in this series the world has fallen apart and control of the USA has reverted back to the UK, which has turned the remains of the US into a penal colony. As an avid reader of dystopian/post-apocolyptic fiction, I often find the settings start to feel similar. But this setup was a fresh take on the situation, which I liked a lot. There's a great sisterly relationship between Dawn and Gabby - and it's realistic at the same time because neither girl is perfect. They have their selfish and snotty moments... which is so very true to life. The alternating POV is not my favorite style (I tend to get lost, even with good markers of whose viewpoint is at the forefront), but it was well-done in this book. And because the two sisters were having such different experiences, it made sense to set it up this way. And the storylines were engaging and kept me interested throughout. As I finished the book I was happy to see that all three books in the series are released so I don't have to wait for the rest of the story. :)
