Rocks form incredible shapes when affected by outside forces, but do they shape our whole world? This book aims to share the science behind rocks and the surprising ways they influence life today.
A book focused on rocks might not seem like something that would have a lot of colors in it. But this book, and its illustrator, shows some of the many varieties of rocks. From the basic orange stones with clear cut layers to the gray mountains topped with grass. There’s a variety in the images, each picture bringing to life a different aspect of the world.
From mountains to stalactites to a location where you can swim between two tectonic plates, this book takes readers on a journey across the Earth. Different areas have different rock formations, and sometimes surprising connections to countries across the map. The book focuses on many of the smaller ways that rocks shape the Earth, but there is discussion about the changes allowed because of rocks.
The very back of the book also provides additional information related to rocks and a glossary for difficult words that the younger readers may not be familiar with.
DO ROCKS SHAPE THE EARTH is a very introductory look at the way rocks shift and move and impact Earth. With gorgeous illustrations and a host of useful information, it’s a perfect starting point for younger rock enthusiasts.
