By now, we know Allie pretty well. We know the events that led her to her awakening and how this new world affected her. We saw her interactions with Aidan as they grew closer, but we didn't really know him.

Now we do.

Using Aidan's point of view, we come to understand him. He's had a rough life. Being so much more powerful than his family and friends, he has had to live with their constant struggles to be near him. He makes them uncomfortable even though they love him. It's lonely business, being at the top.

Power doesn't equal happiness. That's a constant them in this book. Aidan will change the world one day. He has the power to protect those he loves. But what's the cost to him.

I absolutely loved this book, even more than the first one. In my opinion, Aidan goes from a semi-pitiful kicked dog to a misunderstood, lonely guy. I no longer pity him, I just feel sad for him. It's not easy to write in a way that allows the reader to differentiate between the two feelings. Well done. This book is a gem.
