Hush a Bye Lady is an interconnected set of retellings by Abigail Manning that are creative and quick reads. Sasha is a fantastic character. In the beginning of the story it's clear she's afraid of her parents and doing whatever she can to please them and be good and kind. During the story we however learn that her parents might actually not be good people and slowly Sasha is learning to fight for herself. It's fantastic to see the silent girl from the beginning growing up into a girl ready to become a queen. I also loved the plot. Not giving Sasha's secret away is a fantastic storytelling technique that kept me in my seat. Of course, I wondered what a five-year-old could have done that was this bad, and the finale didn't disappoint. Watching all the puzzle pieces come together, learning what happened so many years ago, and seeing how much impact one small moment could have was amazing. And then there is, of course, the romance. I was really happy that both characters got to spend so much time together, talking and getting to know each other. The more we saw of the prince, the more I started to love him, mainly because he seemed to be one of the few people in this book who put Sasha's needs, wants, and happiness first. The book is not without danger and pain, but I closed it with a smile and a warm heart.
Audiobook Review: As the third book in a series, I am glad that they kept the same narrator for all three. I would thoroughly enjoy listening to the rest of the books when they are ready in audiobook format. The books are not overly long, so you can easily finish one on your commute or while you're at work, with an average length of 8 hours or less. These are entertaining and creative audiobooks.
