Colie expects the worst when she's sent to spend the summer with her eccentric aunt Mira while her mother, queen of the television infomercial, tours Europe. Always an outcast-first for being fat and then for being "easy"-Colie has no friends at home and doesn't expect to find any in Colby, North Carolina. But then she lands a job at the Last Chance Café and meets fellow waitresses Morgan and Isabel, best friends with a loving yet volatile relationship. Wacky yet wise, Morgan and Isabel help Colie see herself in a new way and realize the potential that has been there all along.

Another great Dessen book about family and friends! The romance of this book kind of takes a back seat to everything else, and I really don't mind. Colie's story was great!

I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know the characters. They will grow on you as you get to know them. Colie, Mira, Morgan and Isabel, and of course Norman. Great story with real life lesssons about having self esteem and letting go of the things that are in the past, holding you back from being happy.
Good Points

Keeping the Moon is a fresh and well developed story about a really interesting subject.

Colie
is a girl who used to be fat, like her mother, and now theyre both
slim and her mother is like a workout queen. But even when the pounds
are gone, inside, she continues feeling really insecure about herself,
remembering all the things they said to her back at home.

But
that summer changes everything and she will find herself and that
confidence shes missing, everything with the help from the new people
around her.

Is
a great story, with a different character. This time is not the pretty
girl, is just a girl trying to find herself, with a lot of issues.
Shes different, not perfect and that makes her easy to identify with.

Keeping
the moon has a very good lesson about confidence and self-esteem, about
life and about keep trying even when everything sucks. Is about the way
we see ourselves and about letting go those things that are no good to
remember.

Since
her aerobics-obsessed mother is going to Europe for business, Colie is
sent to live with her wacky Aunt Mira in Colby, North Carolina. Even
though Colie has recently lost over forty pounds and shed the "geeky
and fat" look, her self-esteem is still not fully healed. So, Colie
sees this as an opportunity to start over and be a new person, since no
one in Colby will know about her past. After meeting best friends
Morgan and Isabel, and the artistic Norman, Colie is starting to enjoy
the summer and the person she's created to be. That is, until an old
classmate from her hometown shows up and starts the gossip all over
again. Colie feels defeated and hopeless, until her new friends start
teaching her life-long lessons about beauty, guys, and life. Slowly,
Colie is able to mend her shattered self-image and embrace the person
she was all along.

This is one of the most realistic books I've read in a long time.
It was almost strange how this is all fiction, because it seemed like
something that could happen to one of my very own friends, or myself.
The characters in this novel were all very distinct, and I got to know
each one personally. I liked how they were all different - Morgan, the
caring perfectionist, and Isabel, the bold and flamboyant one. However,
it didn't seem like I really was able to dig deep into their characters
until after the first half of the book was over. To me, the novel
dragged in some chapters and I was ready for a new twist in the plot or
a change of setting. But, halfway through it picked up and also a touch
of romance was added, which is always a good thing. ;)

I think I also really enjoyed this book since I could relate to
Colie so easily. I could feel her pain when she had flashbacks of being
teased in middle school. My own personal stories were revealed through
her character and that really fascinated me.

After finishing the last page of the book, I just took this deep
breath and sat there smiling to myself. The ending was perfect, all the
loose ends were tied together and I was satisfied. But I didn't want it
to be over! The best parts of the book were during the last couple of
chapters, when a lot of events finally started to happen.

I feel like this was a deep, and thought-provoking book. If you
look close enough, there's a lot of important lessons buried inside of
it, and even the title has a little hidden symbolism in it - which is
brought up halfway through the novel. I'm glad I took the time to read
this book, but it's not one of my favorites of Sarah Dessen's other
novels. I just feel like there was a whole lot of potential for this
book, but it didn't execute enough plot. I loved how realistic it was,
though!

Another one of Sarah Dessen's amazing novel describes a story of a girl whos mom made t big and now she is forced to live with her aunt. The romance of this novel between her and Derek which this rad sunglasses is so breathing taking. It describes the type of relationship i can see myself being happy in. With her black hair and nose piering to hide her feeling about the way she was considered a WHORE or a "hole in one" from her old school is just a rough exterior she overcomes. I sugest this novel for any teen girls wanting a great storyline with red-hot romance.

The main character in this book is Colie. The author is very good at describing small town things. Colie's mother is KiKi who is a fitness instructor. Colie is the girl that lost all the weight and now has the lip ring. KiKi is doing a tour for her fitness plan. Colie is sent to live with her aunt Mira. Norman comes to pick her up from the train station... Norman has an obsession with sunglasses.
This book is quirky and funn.

Love It!

Summary: Colie is a fifteen year old girl who, alongside her mom, used to be overweight and would move constantly. Wherever she stayed she was taunted for her fat. When her mom becomes Kiki Sparks the aerobics teacher, she sheds off the pounds. Now she is taunted for being a slut, although she isn't. Colie's mom is traveling for a tour in Europe to spread believe for overweight women everywhere to Become. Colie hasn't Become yet, she's still insecure. She ends up staying with her aunt Mira during the summer in Colby. Colie gets a job at the Last Chance Restaurant and begins new friendships with the two waitresses there: grumpy Isabel and organized Morgan who are best friends. Colie meets Norman, the "art freak" (like Mira) and although at first she wasn't attracted to him something becomes of the relationship. Colie learns with her new friends at Colby to feel self-confident.
My Thoughts: It was nice. It took me a while to get into it. However, it was an easy read and cute. It was very predictable but still worthwhile. I'm happy for Colie at the end since she becomes self-confident. Sarah Dessen's other works are better. But this one is better than That Summer and Someone Like You.

Keeping the Moon by. Sarah Dessen follows fifteen-year-old Colie, a formerly obese teen, as she struggles to find herself. Colie's life has been a roller coaster from day one, between a teen mother and a new town every two months the only constants in her life were the teasing that followed her from school to school and the fifty pounds that shielded her from it all. But when Colie's mother, also obese, develops an aerobics exercise that becomes the new international workout craze, Colie's extra pounds and the constant moving disappear, leaving only the teasing and hurt. Soon Colie's mother is touring Europe for the summer and Colie, lost and rebeling against her mother, is forced to move in with her eccentric aunt for the summer. Little does she know that a whole new life awaits her in the small town of Colby.

Dessen has created a beautiful coming of age novel will captivate readers quickly. Her light and humorous way of tackling important issues keeps teens reading while still making a large impression in their lives. Those who have read Dessen's more recent novel, The Truth About Forever, will find many similarities between the two. But even if you have not, this story will lure you in all the same. With an eccentric group of characters, romantic subplot, and eclectic, funky setting this book is hard not to love.

It's important lessons, beautiful writing, and heartwarming storyline make this novel a must read for all teens.

I didn't think this was one of Sarah Dessen's best books. I thought it was okay, but it didn't really hook me like I expected it to. I think that since this was her first book that she did well. I have read some of her other books and I reccommend them to everyone. Colie was a good character, but the plot wasn't really out there. I think that it was kinda boring and I was disappointed. REad it for yourself!!
