Colie has been teased cruelly all her life because of the fact that she was fat. Although she lost all the weigh, she still feels inferior to her peers and still takes in all the cruel jokes, rumors and treatment from people.

One summer her mom has to travel so she has to stay with her aunt who is very different from her mom and anyone she knows. While living with her aunt she gets a job as a waitress in a local restaurant. There she meets Isabel and Morgan. They teach her to love and stand up for herself and improve her self-esteem.

Along with that, her aunt teaches her that everyone is different and there is nothing wrong with that. No one is perfect. She learns to be herself regardless of what people say or think.

As much as I love to read, I wouldn't recommend this novel. The story of a teenage girl who goes to a small town for the summer, leaving behind her friends, her home, and everything she knows, Keeping the Moon is as typical as young adult dramas get. It's an after-school special in literary form, which ties itself in a neat little bow by the end. It's neither badly written nor uninteresting -- I simply believe that there are better ways for readers to spend their time. For a good teen-angsty read, get Catcher in the Rye out of your system. You'll remember that one forever.
