Heartfelt and Realistic

Little Big Man was deeper than expected. Based on the cover and title, I expected a sweet picture book of a boy looking up to his father as a role model. The book did contain that theme, but went much deeper to include becoming a new brother. Elijah can’t wait for his dad to come home and play, only to be derailed by the reality of his father picking up extra shifts at work to help support their growing family, and Elijah needing to step up and help his mama with the baby. With heart and optimism, Elijah makes his daddy proud while he’s gone and finds a way for them to play as a family when he gets home. This story is incredibly realistic, and I felt for Elijah plus his parents as they navigate these new challenges together. This book has so much heart that any growing family will be able to see themselves in this story.
