Delightful Story about Making a Family Recipe

In More Hands, Sami and his grandfather are getting ready to make pishmaniyah, and Sami’s grandfather is teaching Sami the secret ingredient.

What I Liked: This book is a simple and sweet story about a kid and his grandfather that highlights the passing down of traditions. The illustrations throughout this book are soft with light colors and simple with many of the illustrations focused on the dish being made and the many hands helping to create this dish.

The way the text dances across the page adds an interesting element to this story and helps your eyes follow along as Sam and his grandfather make pishmaniyah. The text is curved and follows the illustrations throughout this book, ensuring that it doesn’t get lost in the illustrations.

Final Verdict: More Hands is a delightful story highlighting how more hands are a blessing and necessary for making some of the best dishes. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy seeing how people come together to create a delicious dish and talk about the ways that they have helped in the kitchen. This is a great book to show children how community is built and the importance of not just helping one another but also enjoying the dish with everyone at the end.
