Hey. I’m a bagel who is just one thing: PLAIN. The other bagels? They’re all just one thing, too. Garlic. Salt. Onion—you get the idea.

BORING!

Being plain makes me feel like I have this big hole, right here in my gut. Because in a world full of so many things, I want to be . . .

EVERYTHING!

Now I just have to figure out what that is . . .

A Little Bit Everything

The Bagel Who Wanted Everything” by Alan Silberberg is a cute tale about a plain bagel who thinks his role in life is nothing but boring. He wants to be more—he wants to be everything!

While his Great-Plain-Grandbagel tries to tell him that he should be happy with the one thing he is—plain—he isn’t okay with that. He is desperate. So he tries to be a hat, a washing machine, anything that will allow him to be something more than plain. The other bagels think this is ridiculous and he should just stick with what he is, but he isn’t giving up. Little by little, he finds that trying new things allows him to be a little bit of everything after all.

The moral of the story is that anyone can be anything they want to be if they only put their minds to it. There is something out there to make everyone happy, and trying your hand at a little bit of everything is a good step to take.
