LIFT TOUCH AND LEARN FIRST WORDS: ANIMALS is an enjoyable board book with interactive touch-and-feel elements as well as lift-the-flaps for older infants and young toddlers. The book is organized by habitat and features a variety of illustrated animals across each page spread. Flaps lift to give simple facts about some animals and others have touchable features on part of the animal for little fingers.

What I loved: This is a simple concept, but it works so well for young children who are developing their vocabulary and love animals! The book includes a lot of animals, and the organization is smart, giving context through habitat. There are a few simple animal facts on each page that provide additional information and make this work well for toddlers.

The flaps are all well done and show some animals in motion. The touchable elements include a variety of fur/soft and bumpy textures. The animal names are in large, clear font, which is also great for early word recognition. An activity at the end, where children are asked to name the animals that appear adds to the fun for older readers as they stretch their memory to recall the different animals.

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, the touchable elements are very small and hard to really feel. It would have been nice to see these a bit larger where they appear so that little fingers could really touch them a bit more.

Final verdict: LIFT TOUCH AND LEARN FIRST WORDS: ANIMALS is a simple board book that works well to teach children about animal names, some basic animal facts, and textures. Highly recommend for toddlers, who can participate in the touch-and-feel elements, flaps to lift, and the memory recall at the end.
