My First Big Book of Whales and Dolphins is a nonfiction book perfect for early elementary readers. The use of real photographs and clearly labeled parts makes it easy to follow the content. The short paragraphs per page make it engaging for a read-aloud or a newly independent reader to follow along. The language choices are well-suited for young readers and give clear explanations of the vocabulary associated with these marine mammals. This paperback book is oversized as highlighted in the title, and there are plenty of pages of facts and photographs to satisfy any young inquiring mind. The only thing I think could enhance the experience is to use the hardback version of the book because it is big enough to be on the floppy, awkward side to hold in your lap. Overall, this is a great book of facts about Whales and Dolphins that has just the right amount of information and clear explanations to satisfy the curiosity of young learners.
