BEAUTIFUL BUGS is a gorgeous, detailed pop-up board book. Each page spread opens up with a detailed and colorful pop-up of a different bug, such as butterflies, snails, and dragonflies. There is brief text which can be read as well as some Nature Notes that give a little bit more information about that bug.

What I loved: This is an absolutely stunning book. The illustrations are gorgeous and really come to life with the detailed pop-ups. Each page feels very intricate and the pop-ups are incredible. They really come up off the page with lots of detail and a large size that will really wow young readers. The use of color and detail is impressive - it's hard to describe just how stunning each page is!

The simple text that goes across each page captures what is happening, so the pages can turn quickly. The font is clear and easy to read around the pop-ups, which makes this great for any time of day. Nature Notes in the corner of each page spread give fun facts and more information about the featured bug, so toddlers and preschoolers who want to learn more can!

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, the pop-ups are quite delicate and would need a mature reader not to rip them. They are cardstock thickness and easy to rip. Once torn, the bugs and details are lost. For this reason, this book may work best for older preschoolers and early elementary school readers who can be more gentle with the pages.

Final verdict: BEAUTIFUL BUGS is a gorgeous pop-up board book that teaches cool facts about common bugs. Highly recommend for curious and gentle young readers!
