This book goes beyond a quick ABC concept book about wild animals. Each page features a lift-the-flap to delve into interesting facts about each animal’s important features. There was common information for younger children but more unique facts for an older child to find interesting. This book would not likely be used to teach a young child about the Alphabet and if it were then I would be disappointed in K being “knuckles.” Older children are often given research assignments to come up with as many words that start with each letter of the alphabet as they can and this would be a wonderful book to use as an example of how to do that.
A young child would be more interested in this format but may not have the attention span or background knowledge to fully engage in all that this book offers a reader. The information may be good for older children but they may not enjoy the board book and the association with it being “for babies” in this format. While the intended age group/format may be problematic it is overall an interesting book offering unique facts about animal anatomy.
