The pigs have happy lives together but they wonder why only the sheep get counter by children when they are struggling to fall asleep. Would it be possible for the kids to count pigs instead? A pig decides that they will talk with the sheep about this and this sheep makes it clear that only they are qualified for this job. The pigs have other ideas and gather together to trick the sheep into not showing up for the job so they can have a try.
What I Liked: This book begins by introducing you to the group of pigs and their current lives and informs you that they have dreams beyond what they currently do. This book provides you with another perspective on pigs and showcases that dreams aren’t always as they seem, good or bad.
This book will have you laughing out loud with each turn of a page. There are some funny, ridiculous moments especially as the pigs try out being counted to help children fall asleep. The pigs change drastically in appearance because of their new jobs and the illustrations do a fantastic job of showcasing those changes. The illustrations are simple and go well with the text as there is no background for the text to get lost in.
The various things that the pigs do to get the sheep to miss out when the kid calls them to sleep are hilarious. As you read, you wonder if the pigs will ever get a chance to put children to sleep and when it finally happens the book only gets funnier as the pigs are not equipped for their new job.
Final Verdict: Pig Dreams is a funny book about pigs chasing their dreams and finding out it isn’t what they were imaging. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy the changes that occur in the pigs as they attempt this new job and end up looking very different.
