This photo illustrated board book will appeal to readers young and old who think that teacup pigs are adorable. The pigs of Pennywell Farms, a petting zoo in Devon, England are ready to celebrate Christmas, decked out in festive gear (like Santa hats!) in front of seasonal backgrounds, including a red camper van covered in snow. The text proclaims that it is the best time of year, just right for cuddling close with loved ones and singing. I can only imagine that all of the pigs in the book are on Santa's "nice" list, and will be on yours as well.

Good Points

My daughter was very enthralled with pigs after encountering them at the Iowa State Fair when she was very young, and even though I know (from reading Goebel's Pigture Perfect) that teacup pigs don't really stay that small, I'm sure that many young readers will fantasize about their own pet pig after reading this book.

Even though most children don't have personal experience with farm animals, books for the youngest readers concentrate heavily on them. Put this pocketful of piggies to your board book shelf next to Boynton's Barnyard Dance, Lockhart's Tummy Time: Farm, Chytilova's Sheep or Cow and Rainey's Oink! I'm a Pig.

POCKET PIGGIES: CHRISTMAS! is an adorable photo collection of miniature pigs in Christmas scenes. The text creates some rhymes, but the strength of the book is really in the cute photos. Infants and toddlers will enjoy looking through these photos, and the holiday theme is a charming touch to bring them all together.

What I loved: This board book is small and great for little hands to hold and explore. The photos of real animals are a nice touch that holds great appeal for infants and toddlers. The text is simple but includes some nice rhymes that give it a bit of melody when reading, and it is printed large enough to easily read. The best part of the book is definitely the photos which have a cute Christmas theme, including a caroling book (which the pigs are holding upside down), snow, and plenty of Santa hats.

Final verdict: This cute board book is a fun collection of animal photos that will appeal to the youngest readers. With a Christmas theme, its a festive and fun book to look through.
